South Florida braces for heavy rains from tropical wave

It doesn't look like the tropical wave lurking in the Atlantic will develop into Tropical Storm Hermine anytime soon, but it continues to be a rainmaker as it moves over the Bahamas. This area checking in with maximum sustained winds of 70mph and continuing to move northwest 15 knots. Each day will feature plenty of sunshine as well as hot and humid conditions, but also each day we will see a few widely isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.

The National Hurricane Center is now tracking three tropical systems as well as Tropical Storm Gaston.

The disturbance in the Bahamas labeled Invest 99L continues to fight dry air and shear which has led the National Hurricane Center to lower chances for development over the coming days. The broad area of low pressure is associated with a tropical wave. This low is forecast to move westward and then west-northwestward at about 10 miles per hour toward the coast of the Carolinas during the next few days, but any development is likely to be slow to occur due to the system's proximity to dry air. The system, given a 20 percent chance of formation during the next five days, is expected to begin a slow westward track early next week. This region has a 90% chance of development over the next 5 days and could become a tropical depression over the weekend. "The UKMET (United Kingdom) model keeps 99L moving west-northwest into the central Gulf of Mexico, keeping the storm in the Gulf through next Friday".

A second area of disturbed weather is located located about a hundred miles south of the coast of southwestern Louisiana. It was located over the northern portion of the Gulf Friday morning.
