Nissan recalls 120K vehicles; fluid leaks can cause fires

Nissan is recalling about 134,000 late-model cars, mainly in the United States and Canada, because a fluid leak in the braking system could lead to a fire, the company and US regulators said on Friday. Also included are some 2015 and 2016 Murano hybrids. Owners who see that warning should park outside and away from structures and not drive their vehicles until they are repaired. In some cases, the company says people should park the vehicles outside until they are fixed.

The vehicles are outfitted with an ABS actuator pump that may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board.

The Japanese company said it knew of one minivan short circuiting and causing a small fire under its hood. If there is a leak, the cars anti-lock brake warning light will stay illuminated for more than 10 seconds after the vehicle is started.

The vast majority of the 134,000 cars covered by the recall were sold in the United States or Canada. Nissan says it has no reports of any injuries caused by the defect.

Back in April, Nissan recalled more than 3.5 million vehicles across the globe, including 3.2 million in the USA, over worries the airbags wouldn't work in the event of a crash.
