Tim Tebow signs minor league contract with New York Mets

It was announced that the New York Mets signed Tebow to a minor league deal and will have him play in their Instructional League.

NY opted to have Tebow begin his professional baseball career in the Instructional League, but he might not play for long with the season coming to an end.

Brodie Van Wagenen, Tebow's baseball agent at Creative Artists Agency, told reporters that several clubs stayed after the workout to meet face-to-face with Tebow. Adam Schefter reports Tebow will start in Instructional League or Arizona Fall League.

Tebow batted.448 with four home runs and 25 RBIs as a high school junior in Florida. He demonstrated some power in a recent workout at Southern Cal before a large contingent of major-league scouts, but did struggle a bit against live pitching. General manager Sandy Alderson met with team co-owner Jeff Wilpon, who signed off on Alderson's suggestion that they get a deal done. I want to be someone that pursues what I believe in and what I'm passionate about, and a lot of people will say, "Well, what if you fail?" The minor league contract with the New York Mets includes a $100,000 signing bonus, according to The Associated Press citing a person familiar with the contract.

Tim Tebow is coming back to NY.

He also tried out for both New England the Philadelphia but never played during the regular season for either team.

A former Heisman Trophy Winner in college, Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos and played three seasons in the National Football League, first with the Broncos and then with the New York Jets.

It's actually quite impressive when you consider that Tebow's last stint as a professional athlete came in 2012, when he played as a reserve quarterback on the New York Jets.

He said since he was a young child there were two things he loved more than anything else in sports.

Tebow, 29, moved away from football to give baseball a shot with a tryout last month.
