Football Association Chief Executive Officer Martin Glenn has said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is one of the most suitable candidates for the role of England manager.

The Burnley boss continued: "As ever, Arsenal get people questioning them but they look pretty good to me".

Speaking in an exclusive interview to Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, Wenger said: "First of all I had big competition up front".

The French manager told Henry that the team's loss to Manchester United past year was one of the worst moments of in his career.

The Frenchman went on: "I want to win absolutely everything and play the flawless game in every game".

When a manager leads a club for a great number of years, the question of legacy is one that is often asked as his tenure comes to a close.

Wenger's contract expires at the end of the season and he admitted last week he was open to taking the job, if he was available, although he did insist the Gunners remain his priority.

"I don't know if he'll say it one day, but I think it is his proudest moment". He's not going to stop that now and while 20 years is a long time at one club, once you get there, what is five more?

It was an English game with English owners everywhere - in 1996 every club was owned by English people and today it is world companies with world ownerships and interests.

Some fans were unhappy with Wenger's direction and even turned up to games with banners saying "Wenger Out" - so why didn't he go then?

The Scotland youth global may be some way from breaking into the first-team picture at Arsenal, but with Wenger as hungry as ever for success, he could still be at the helm when Crean's time comes.

He said: "I've always thought he has the attributes to bring something different to the team because he has a different style of play". It was a game we couldn't afford to lose and not to turn up on the day, you wonder 'what did I do wrong there?

"I like them because I think they are focused", he said.

Arsene Wenger was relieved his Arsenal side made the most of the opportunity provided to them by Tottenham to close the gap on league leaders Manchester City.
