Lodha tells banks to halt two BCCI disbursements

New Zealand's tour of India could be cancelled after banks were ordered to freeze the accounts of the Indian cricket

New Zealand confirmed it has been told by the BCCI that the series has not been cancelled and the visitors will go ahead with preparations for the third Test. He said that the BCCI would file a report to the Supreme Court for its next hearing due on 6 October. The amount of Rs 400 crore was disbursed to associations as routine expense not as what is being alleged by the Lodha Panel, he also said.

He added, "All that was probably needed would have been to bring in greater transparency in the financial transactions of the BCCI and the State associations".

However, with this clarification from Justice Lodha, the New Zealand tour which had been thrown in doubt, will continue. The letter, which was addressed to BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke, CEO Rahul Johri, treasurer Anirudh Choudhary and Rana Kapoor of Yes Bank, also talked about how the BCCI has openly breached the Supreme Court's order.

Shape up or ship out, the Supreme Court told the BCCI while directing it to abide by all the recommendations made by the panel.

The BCCI, however, argued that state associations were dependant on the funds they received from the BCCI in order to organize matches and claimed that this could hinder their preparations for the upcoming games in the series against New Zealand.

BCCI further adopted a defiant attitude towards the reforms suggested by the Lodha Committee saying - "we can't give unconditional undertaking that we will follow Lodha panel directions". The BCCI, in its response in the Supreme Court, has refuted allegations of non-compliance with Justice RM Lodha-led panel's recommendations, saying that "records of 40 mails" exchanged with Justice Lodha will be submitted before the apex court.

In its October 1 Special General Meeting, the BCCI had accepted numerous "significant recommendations" of the Lodha Committee, however, it excluded the important ones which have been bone of contention between the cricket body and the Lodha Panel.
