Toronto Blue Jays Lead Texas Rangers 1-0 in ALDS

The long three-run homer Jose Bautista hit off reliever Jake Diekman in the ninth inning, before gently tossing his bat to the ground, didn't really have much an impact on this game. The two teams have history after last year's ALDS, Jose Bautista's bat-flip and an incident between Bautista and Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor. The Rangers host the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Thursday.

The Blue Jays' Jose Bautista hits a three-run homer to left field agianst the Rangers' Jake Diekman during the ninth inning October 6, 2016, in Arlington, Texas. The Blue Jays then won at home this week when Edwin Encarnacion hit a game-ending, three-run homer to beat Baltimore.

Marco Estrada dominated the Rangers and a combination of poor fielding and an ineffective Cole Hamels was the ideal recipe for the Blue Jays offense that unloaded for 10 runs on 13 hits.

INDIANS 5, RED SOX 4 - Francisco Lindor's homer capped Cleveland's three-homer rampage in the third inning against 22-game victor Rick Porcello, and the Indians held on for a win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night in their AL Division Series opener. They have depth in their starting rotation, which I think would play better in a seven game series rather than a five game series. "Unfortunately I couldn't", said Estrada, who failed to convince Gibbons to keep him in.

Batting fourth in the rotation as designated hitter, Bautista was greeted in his first at-bat with nearly 50,000 fans mixing in boos and chants of "Rougie", a nod at Rangers' second-baseman Rougned Odor and the now infamous punch he laid on Bautista earlier this season.

"Who cares? We won", Estrada said. He allowed as many earned runs in 3 1/3 innings (six) as in his previous five postseason starts combined (six in 34 1/3 innings).

After missing the 2015 season recovering from Tommy John surgery, Darvish will make his AL Division Series debut Friday when he starts Game 2 against the Toronto Blue Jays. The worst blow was Troy Tulowitzki's two-out, three-run double to center that Ian Desmond might have been able to catch if the ball hadn't shifted from sun to shade near the warning track.

Jay Z, calling juvenile solitary 'inhumane,' backs TV series
However, he took his own life after his release. "I think it's very clear that solitary confinement for a 16-year-old is wrong to every single person in here".

Arnold Palmer, one of golf's greatest players, dies at 87
A Rochester Golf Pro, Mark DeBolt, who played with Palmer several years ago calls him a true gentleman of the game. There is no way to adequately express the enormous sense of loss that we all feel with this news.

International Monetary Fund Lowers Its Outlook For US Economic Growth
The revision comes in the wake of figures showing the economy expanding by 3.3 per cent over the 2015/16 financial year. United States growth has been cut for this year but a recovery is expected to resume albeit at a weaker pace in 2017.

Later in the third, Adrian Beltre couldn't snare a wicked liner off the bat of Josh Donaldson and Carrerra cashed in the walk for the game's first run.

The lead grew to 7-0 an inning later thanks to Melvin Upton Jr.'s solo home run and another RBI hit by Donaldson.

The under is 8-2 in Toronto's last 10 road games and is 23-7 in their last 30 on grass while going 9-3 in Toronto's last 12 games following a win.

When Texas had errors on three consecutive plays in that shaky seventh inning of Game 5 last October, leading up to Bautista's homer, Andrus had two of them. They'll need to do it against J.A. Happ, one of the two 20-game winners in the AL this year and sixth-best in ERA.

The Jays face the Rangers in Game 2 of the ALDS on Friday afternoon in Texas at 1:08 P.M. ET. Veteran Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus made two costly plays that ended up tying the game, bringing Bautista to the plate. The Rangers lost 10-9 in extra innings. Toronto has led the majors in runs over the last two seasons, but this year its OPS against lefthanders was middle-of-the-road at.747 (14th overall).

CLOSING TIME: Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna left the AL wild-card game with a sore shoulder. He had four stints on the disabled list this season, and had missed 39 games with a fractured left forearm before returning for the last three games of the regular season. At the end of the inning, half an hour had passed, Hamels threw 42 pitches, and the Blue Jays found themselves leading the Rangers 5-0. Stroman, who pitched a hell of a game Tuesday night against the Orioles in the Wild Card game, has the makeup and attitude of a big game pitcher.
