Texas Anti-Abortion Law Had Intended Effect

"Guttmacher spends much of their recent report on the incidence of abortion in the United States arguing that increased contraception use is largely responsible for the short term decline in the US abortion rate", Charlotte Lozier Institute scholar and Ave Maria University professor Dr. Michael New told LifeSiteNews.

The decision has caused federal courts to strike down similar laws across the south and midwest and effectively prevented other states from following in Texas' footsteps.

According to the report, there were 14.6 abortions performed per 1,000 women nationwide in 2014, the latest data available. It reached its peak of more than 1.6 million abortions in 1990.

"Our study gives further insight into the ways that the clinic closures due to Texas's restrictive law resulted in an undue burden on women seeking access to abortion care in Texas", said Dr Daniel Grossman, one of the TxPEP researchers and an OB-GYN at the University of California, San Francisco.

Indeed, contrary to what is apparently the popular belief, the abortion rate has been on the steady decline and is now at its lowest rate on record since the landmark Roe vs Wade Supreme Court ruling of 1973. As such, it is hard to argue that increased contraception use is responsible for America's long term abortion decline.

In either of those events, the USA central bank would have to raise rates quickly, which could lead to a recession, she said. However, she emphasized that forecast could change significantly depending on the economy's performance in the Trump era.

Ted Cruz to Mark Levin: 'Very Likely' Sessions Will Be Confirmed
For Schumer, Sessions isn't the right man for the job: But the newly-elected Senate minority leader may not be able to stop him. Sessions needs 50 votes to win confirmation in the Senate, meaning the GOP could approve him without any votes from Democrats.

To conduct the study, researchers did a county-by-county analysis of the change in abortion rate between 2012 and 2014 to the change in driving distance to the nearest abortion clinic in that same time period. Most of the more than 53,000 abortions in Texas in 2014 were among women living in those big cities.

For the study, researchers analyzed a survey of USA facilities known or expected to have provided abortion services in 2013 or 2014, and compared findings with a similar survey conducted in 2011. In fact, the abortion rate has fallen by more than 50 percent since it peaked in 1980.

The statistics do not include women who traveled to another state or country to get an abortion, or who tried to do it on their own. "Instead there is a substantial body of academic research which shows that a range of protective pro-life laws reduce abortion rates".

The percentage of pregnancies ending in abortion is down to 18.8 percent, a decline of almost two-fifths below is 1983 peak of 30.3 percent.

"It corroborates the findings of our previous qualitative research, where we heard from women that the long distances to the nearest clinic created significant financial and logistical barriers to care".
