President Trump vows to start renegotiating NAFTA

President Trump says he'll take up immigration on his third full day in office, promising in a tweet, "Among many other things, we will build the wall" along the USA border with Mexico.

This was likely to include executive orders restricting refugees and blocking the issuing of visas to people from several Muslim-majority Middle Eastern and North African countries including Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Yemen.

During an address to the Department of Homeland Security Wednesday following his executive order on immigration, Trump said, "We are going to restore the rule of law".

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer announced Wednesday that President Donald Trump will strip federal funding from so-called sanctuary cities like Philadelphia.

The President said in an interview with ABC News that planning for it was well under way, and repeated his pledge that Mexico will pay for it.

One of Trump's key campaign promises was to construct a border wall with Mexico. A strong and healthy economy in Mexico is very good for the USA, he said, adding that he's "looking forward" to meeting with President Enrique Peña Nieto again.

MUIR: Mexico's president said in recent days that Mexico absolutely will not pay, adding that it goes against our dignity as a country, "our dignity as Mexicans".

Both Trump and his nominee for attorney general, U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, have since said they would focus the restrictions on countries whose migrants could pose a threat, rather than placing a ban on people who follow a specific religion.

During a visit to the Department of Homeland Security, the president signed an executive action directing federal agencies to prepare for construction of a "large physical barrier on the southern border".

One of Donald Trump's major campaign pledges was to build a wall between the USA and Mexico.

It's unsurprising that the wall was one of Trump's first orders of business as president.

Trump confirmed that he will have a big announcement, saying on Twitter late on January 24; "Big day planned on national security tomorrow".

In order to force those governments to take back the deportees, Spicer said the administration would consider withholding visas and "use other tools" to ensure compliance.

"As soon as we can, as soon as we can physically do it", he said. It also provides additional resources to DHS to "stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States".
