2 in First Unveiling of Top 16


On Saturday, the NCAA Tournament selection committee announced its rankings for the top 16 teams in the nation.

Louisville is the 2 seed in the East, Florida State is the 2 seed in the Midwest, North Carolina is the 2 seed in the South, Virginia is the 3 seed in the West and Duke is the 4 seed in the Midwest.

The next four teams on the seed list were Arizona, Virginia and Southeastern Conference foes Florida and Kentucky. As the highest-seeded No. 4 team, Butler was assigned to its closest region, which is Memphis.

"Those four teams are having tremendous seasons but as we know in college basketball, things can change quickly", Hollis said, according to Selection Committee Chair Mark Hollis-who, coincidentally, is Michigan State's athletic director-did mention both the Badgers and Boilermakers as teams that just missed out on the top 16, along with Creighton, so it's entirely possible one or both play their way into the top quarter of the field. The final bracket announcement will take place on March 12.
