Hyperloop One Announces 11 Possible U.S. Routes

One proposed U.S. route would connect Florida cruise ports to Orlando for a quick inland trip to theme park attractions

Executives from the California tech company Hyperloop One said at an event Thursday at the Newseum in Washington that they plan to connect 80 percent of the country via electromagnetic tubes, allowing for high-speed travel. "This disruptive technology-conceived, developed and built in the USA -will move passengers and cargo faster, cleaner and more efficiently".

"We're creating blue collar [jobs and] white collar jobs with an all-American solution that is being designed here and can be built here", Hyperloop One CEO Rob Lloyd said.

Hyperloop is a new way to move people and things at airline speeds for the price of a bus ticket. Hyperloop One is hoping to sway members of Trump's administration to include the 760 miles per hour transportation system in its plan to give America's infrastructure a face-lift.

A 1,640-foot test track called the DevLoop has been built by Hyperloop One in North Las Vegas and will soon be used to try out a full-scale version of the train for the first time - an occasion the company refers to as its "Kitty Hawk" moment, in reference to where the Wright brothers first flew in 1903.

The LA-based company has today outlined 11 potential routes for Hyperloop routes in the United States that it says would massively reduce transport and cargo time through the nation's more heavily used passages.

The hyperloop will need to accelerate and slow down gently, so that the gravitational forces don't leave passengers feeling ill. "It's just the next generation of high-speed rail, except cheaper and faster".

Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, who served under President Barack Obama, said that aside from the major obstacle of actually building something that the company can convince people is safe, another major barrier is that there is no existing way to fit something like this into America's existing oversight structures.

"Hyperloop One is the American Dream, and it's fast becoming an American reality", Pishevar said. "The idea is that you could put freight on the network, you could have passengers on the network, and cars on the network".

"From a planning perspective and from a regulatory perspective Texas is a good first step for Hyperloop", Duong said.
