Relay for Life count finalised

Relay For Life events worldwide provide nearly 50 percent of the operating income for the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge Jerome L. Greene Family Center offers housing at no cost for families and cancer patients receiving treatment in Manhattan.

The relay is the biggest annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

As of 3 p.m. on Monday, April 17, the Relay for Life of VSU had already raised $12,258.93.

The Relay For Life movement is the world's largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. The event is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,000 communities.

Rutgers University has now raised $65,742.49 out of its goal of $110,000, according to Relay for Life's website.

Following an opening announcement about the Relay at 9 a.m., there will be a new event as part of the morning - a "morning stretch" - at 9:30 a.m. Cheong said he enjoys the event because of its unifying effect. "A lot of the events are specific to academic clubs or Greek organizations or social clubs, but this one really brings everybody from faculty to students to athletes, etc. together and that is really great".
