"In her new role as assistant secretary of public affairs at HHS, Yoest will, according to Politico "[shape] communications efforts for the entire agency". On AUL's website, Yoest is referred to as "public enemy no. 1" of abortion rights organizations.

Yoest's role within HHS is no doubt a threat to reproductive health. "Why can't you report what the research actually shows?"

While she served as president of Americans United for Life, one of the most well-known anti-abortion groups in the country, Yoest was a prominent leader for the anti-abortion movement.

In a New York Times Magazine profile of Yoest back in 2012, reporter with Emily Bazelon noted that Yoest "is especially good at sounding reasonable rather than extreme". "She believes that embryos have legal rights and opposes birth control, like the IUD, that she thinks 'has life-ending properties.'" Yoest reportedly dismissed using contraception to bring down the abortion rate as a "red herring". Though she is appointed, her position doesn't need to be confirmed by the Senate.

Yoest-who began her career working for Ronald Reagan and, later, worked as an advisor for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's 2008 presidential campaign-is leaving a job at the conservative group American Values for the White House position. Anti-abortion groups that push for burdensome and unnecessary restrictions for abortion clinics, such as widening their hallways and applying for unnecessary licenses, claim they are trying to keep abortion clinics safe for women, when the intention is actually to force the clinic to shut down.

"Trump has broken almost all of his promises to the American people in his first 100 days, but he has certainly stuck to his pledge to erode the constitutional right to abortion, punishing women in the process", Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said in a statement Friday.

Yoest is one of many anti-choice advocates installed at HHS since Trump took office.

"This nomination helps fulfill that twisted promise and speaks volumes about the Trump administration's continued disdain for reproductive freedom and women's rights", Hogue continued.
