Arkansas State Police: Three Injured In Yell County Shooting; Suspect Holding Hostages

Arkansas deputy among 3 dead suspect in standoff with police

During that traffic stop, Mainhart, 46, was fatally wounded.

Sadler said late Thursday that there could be three people, possibly four, in the area who have the same name as the suspect.

The deputy was found by a passerby, who notified police. He says Bowden released a woman who was apparently being held hostage before he surrendered.

Inmon said her brother told her he killed two of his girlfriend's relatives. Police have identified the supsect as James Michael Bowden.

The bodies remained in the yard as authorities negotiated with the suspect who by then was at the house.

According to Bill Sadler with the Arkansas State Police, it is believed that there may have been some information about a suspect vehicle involved in the disturbance call that officers were en route to on Gum Springs Road.

A man faces capital murder charges in the killing of three people, including a sheriff's deputy, and after holding a woman hostage during a five-hour standoff with police in rural western Arkansas.

Kevin Mainhart was killed while responding to a disturbance call.

Kevin Mainhart was said to be a respected member not only with the sheriff's department but the entire community. The incident happened at the intersection of State Highway 27 and Slow Fork Road near Chickalah in Yell County.

Mainhart was a law enforcement officer in Yell County for five years after having been a police officer in West Memphis, Arkansas, for more than 20 years.

Following news of Mainhart's death, Gov. Asa Hutchinson issued a statement expressing his "deepest sympathies" for the deputy's family.

Mainhart's death came on the same day as the 36th annual memorial to honor fallen officers at the Arkansas state Capitol.

When officers arrived at the location of the initial disturbance call, they found two more people dead, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said.
