Leaders of the House oversight committee, Republican Jason Chaffetz and Democrat Elijah Cummings told U.S. news networks this weekend they would be "pursuing" the alleged detailed notes that fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director Comey kept of all his meetings with President Donald Trump.

While the White House initially pointed to a memo from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, outlining Comey's mismanagement of the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's private email server, as the impetus for his termination, Trump later admitted that the Russian Federation investigation - which he has called a "hoax" - played a role.

Earlier this week, NPR confirmed that Trump had asked Comey to scuttle the investigation into his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, according to a memo of the account written by Comey.

"I faced great pressure because of Russian Federation".

The White House official was described as a senior adviser who is close to the president, but sources would not identify the official's name, The Post reported. His answer to those questions will carry significant weight with lawmakers, who have already asked for copies of that memo.

Led coalition airstrikes targeted pro-Syrian regime forces
In a four-sentence statement, the coalition added that the pro-regime forces were "well inside" an "established" zone. The attack was the first such close confrontation between us forces and fighters backing President Bashar al-Assad.

"We're extremely disappointed in James Comey's decision not to testify voluntarily before the Judiciary Committee".

He said the notion that he may have affected the presidential race made him feel "mildly nauseous", though he'd do it all again because not doing so "would have been catastrophic".

Trump later told NBC of firing Comey: "I was going to fire regardless of recommendation". The meeting raised eyebrows and faced additional public scrutiny when news broke that Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak, whom current and former US intelligence officials say is a top Russian spy and recruiter of spies (a notion Russian officials have dismissed), also attended. Trump is scheduled to meet with Saudi King Salman, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, Pope Francis and newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron. "This renewed my confidence that we should not have confidence in this administration". Trump hopes to use his appearances in the Mideast to define the conflict with Islamic State and other terrorists as one of good versus evil, rather than the West versus Islam, the official said.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, speaks to reporters on Capitol Hill in Washington, Friday, May 19, 2017, after members of the House of Representatives were briefed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about the controversy over President Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey.

"There is no reason he can't testify before both the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees. He should reconsider his decision", they added.
