Such an embassy, to the contrary, would make a clear US declaration that Israel's place in Jerusalem is non-negotiable, so work on the grand peace deal Trump envisions could concentrate on other issues.

Intelligence-sharing between Israel's Mossad and the CIA predated this period, but the conversion of an arms-length relationship into a strategic alliance grew in the 1970s and then especially the 1980s during the Reagan administration.

Make THIS year the year that you visit Jerusalem - on the 2017 WND Tour that will be led by Joseph and Elizabeth Farah, and will feature appearances by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Ambassador David Freidman.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, in preparation for next week's visit by Trump, is known to be hoping to gain support for the U.S. embassy move, as it would be interpreted as validating Israel's 1967 annexation of the eastern section of Jerusalem, and a slap in the face to Palestine's original claims on the region.

Israel and Palestine each claim the contested city as their capital.

"There's no planned announcement for the embassy on the trip", the White House official said.

In another segment of the interview released before airing, Haley reiterated her support for moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

"I think the president's being very measured in how he goes about this".

The letter, which was presented to the president days before his scheduled visit to the Middle East, was an initiative of the American Christian Leaders for Israel (ACLI), an informal network of Christian leaders representing some 60 million Christians in America.

Based on Trump's campaign promises, that deadline to act on the embassy issue should have been irrelevant.

The last round of peace talks collapsed in 2014, a key stumbling block being Israel's settlement-building on occupied land that Palestinians want for a state.
