Mayweather Jr. said Wednesday, June 14, 2017, he will come out of retirement to face UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing match on August 26.

Officially, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor confirmed that they would have an encounter.

Conor McGregor, pictured during UFC 205 weigh-ins at Madison Square Garden on November 11, 2016 in New York City, will earn the biggest purse of his career against Floyd Mayweather. However much Mayweather and McGregor earn from the fight, at least we now know that the fight is happening on August 26, at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena.

"We have actually tapped into the audience that doesn't really follow either sport", said Stephen Espinoza, vice president of the fight's broadcaster Showtime Sports.

McGregor, 28, is the current UFC lightweight champion and former UFC featherweight champion. "He is absolutely 100 percent positive that he wins this fight", White told ESPN.

Mayweather will come off a two-year retirement in a bout that McGregor has been pushing for almost that long. The two men will meet at the light-middleweight limit of 154 pounds, which bodes well for McGregor, who is now the UFC's 155-pound champion. The timing would work out well, as boxing's biggest fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will take place on September 16 in Vegas. He was able to talk his way into what will likely be an eight-figure paycheck and a fight with the greatest boxer of his generation. I'm not saying Floyd Mayweather's going to win. White explained McGregor's appeal when he said: "The reason Conor McGregor is as big as he is is he'll fight anybody, anywhere, any time".

There is no doubt that Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather will be seen as a showdown between boxing and MMA. And Mayweather isn't exactly an entertaining fighter - at least not to the casual fight fan, who will make up a good majority of viewers. Or have you lost your mind and decided that a novice boxer is going to land a SHOCKING LEFT HAND on the best boxer of the modern age?
