No breakthrough was made in the meeting held between BJP president Amit Shah and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for seeking the latter's support for presidential poll candidate. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP president Raosaheb Danve accompanied Shah during meeting which was also attended by Sena chief's son and Yuva Sena president Aditya Thackeray.
At over an hour-long closed-door meeting between the leaders of two NDA allies, Shah told Thackeray that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would decide the NDA's candidate for the highest constitutional post, said sources.
All eyes are on the Shiv Sena as it takes a call here on Tuesday evening on whether or not to support its ally and BJP's Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind.
"The Shiv Sena is not interested in the presidential election if you are going to field a candidate only because he belongs to the Dalit community".

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday met Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and held discussions over the Presidential election. "We do not support this", he said.
In 2012, Mukherjee personally called up and later met Thackeray soliciting his support, which the Sena chief offered, going against the BJP-supported NDA candidate, P.A. Sangma.
Only last week, the Sena claimed that it could take an independent line on presidential elections, creating a flutter in the BJP.
He was responding to reports speculating midterm polls in the State against the backdrop of farmers' stir for loan waiver amid the agrarian crisis.
Lauding Modi for enacting the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law, the BJP leader said nobody else had the "daring or capability" to do it. There is no consensus candidate at this point - with the BJP yet to name its candidate and most of the opposition parties insisting that they can only come to a decision when a name is announced.
