Beijing to 'step up' troop deployment

China on Monday warned India to not "harbour any illusions" about the country's ability to defend its territory. Calling Indian overtures for a peaceful negotiation as an "illusory thinking", China seems to be in no mood to douse the stand-off very soon or quickly, Chinese defence ministry spokesperson has said that India must not try to take the People's Liberation Army (PLA) lightly. "It is easier to shake the mountains than to shake the PLA", Wu was quoted as saying by the state-run Global Times.

The standoff started more than a month ago after Chinese troops started building a road on a remote plateau, which is disputed by China and Bhutan.

In the wake of an Army face-off and chill in ties with India over Dokalam stand-off, the Chinese media outlets have been issuing provoking statements.

Wu urged India to immediately withdraw it troops, describing the request as a prerequisite to resolving the situation.

Wu has reiterated Chinese stand on Doklam impasse when he urged India to withdraw its troop from the flashpoint area at the tri-junction near Bhutan.

"We will safeguard out sovereignty and security interests".

India has said that it is working with diplomatic channels to resolve the simmering tension at Sikkim where soldiers have been locked for over a month in a confrontation with Chinese troops.

Speaking further, Qian said that the peace in the entire region depends if there is peace along the border areas of both the countries.

Asked whether India and China would hold bilateral talks, Lu said, "On bilateral meetings, I do not have the relevant information right now".
