Bills trade Watkins to Rams get Matthews from Eagles

Many Buffalo Bills fans expected to see wide receiver Sammy Watkins have a breakout year in 2017.

This move also saw the Rams lose one of their assumed starting cornerbacks E.J. Gaines. The 25-year-old didn't miss a single game throughout his first two seasons in the National Football League, and missed just two games in the 2016 campaign. He has 153 catches for 2,459 yards and 17 touchdowns in three seasons.

Gaines was valuable defensive back in the Rams' rotation.

For the Bills, this move was about acquiring draft picks for the future: The new regime has already made a decision to move on from Watkins, the prize pick of the old regime.

If Watkins is healthy (which is a big if considering the past two seasons) they have a solid No. 1 receiver to anchor their receiving corps.

He also hinted that Chelsea's new £58m striker Alvaro Morata , could be deployed up front with Michy Batshuayi for Sunday's clash. Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois took the second kick of the shootout, seeking to equalise, and blasted over before Morata fired wide.

Slightly more prudent bettors might consider picking Curry to make the cut, which is available at a much more attainable +1500, meaning a $10 bet would bring back $150.

It's quite obviously a call between an experienced politician (Turnbull) and a political neophyte. Mr Turnbull tried a more diplomatic tack, telling the President: "Thank you for your commitment".

In Los Angeles, Watkins is reunited with former Bills starter Robert Woods, who signed with the Rams in free agency after four seasons in Buffalo.

During the 2014 NFL Draft, former Bills GM Doug Whaley gave up first-round picks in 2014 and 2015 in order to move up five spots to snag Watkins with the fourth overall pick. If they release a package of players later this month, they could add another 2018 third-round pick as part of the NFL's compensatory draft pick system.

The Bills' front office was boosted by an offseason regime change that saw first-year coach Sean McDermott get more say in personnel moves. Last season he had 28 receptions for 430 yards and two scores in eight games for the Bills. He missed three games in 2015 and half the season previous year.

Watkins has played in 21 games the past two seasons after playing all 16 as a rookie in 2014.
