Florida suspends two players for Saturday's game vs MI

Florida Football: Two more Gators cited for marijuana possession

According to multiple reports, Scarlett, the team's leading returning rusher, and Wells, a redshirt freshman who sat out the 2016 season, were involved in the scheme that led to the suspension of the other players excluding Robinson, who was suspended for a marijuana citation.

The others suspended previously are wide receiver James Robinson, linebacker Ventrell Miller, wide receiver Antonio Callaway, defensive tackle Richerd Desir-Jones, offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort, linebacker James Houston, defensive end Keivonnis Davis and defensive end Jordan Smith.

Backup wide receiver Rick Wells also was suspended, which means Florida now has 10 players suspended for the opener.

None of those nine will travel to Texas for the game.

The number of Florida players suspended for the opener against MI on Saturday is now 10. Scarlett earned the starting job during the 2016 season, proving he could be the lone No. 1 back while picking up 889 yards and six touchdowns on 179 carries. Still, starting the season with so many disciplinary actions is not a good look for the program of McElwain, who is looking to build on the 9-4 mark Florida put up in his first season at the helm.

Callaway is one of Florida's most unsafe weapons on offense, accounting for 721 yards and three touchdowns, along with 218 yards returning. He did not practice with the team that spring, but returned to classes during the summer and participated fully in fall practice.
