Brock Osweiler signs with Denver Broncos

Cleveland Browns

Osweiler is not only a Bronco again, he has returned to his more familiar role as backup.

Still, there's damage to be repaired.

Now the team's primary backup, Osweiler doesn't harbor any ill-will towards the front office - general manager John Elway included. We want him to be that starter.

The Broncos milked a handful of semi-solid starts out of Osweiler in 2015 - their Super Bowl-winning campaign - but his game has looked beyond fix ever since. However, Manning returned to health in time for a postseason run, and Osweiler went to the bench.

"I'm glad to have him back, " said Broncos receiver Emmanuel Sanders. He failed to beat out rookie DeShone Kizer for the team's starting job, and after unsuccessfully shopping him on the trade market, Cleveland released the 6-foot-7 signal caller knowing full well that they would end up paying him close to $16 million to not play for them in 2017.

A day after being cut by the Cleveland Browns, Osweiler will head back to the Broncos, who drafted the Arizona State product 57th overall in 2012.

Two months after signing the deal with Houston, Osweiler had some choice words of his own for the Broncos.

Now, Osweiler will back up Siemian with Paxton Lynch out at least a few weeks with a shoulder sprain. It's kind of like that old deal when you're a little kid and your mom, you know, she tells you, 'Don't touch the hot stove.' So, what do you have to do as a curious kid?

"He made the decision that he thought was best for him", Elway said. It's just kind of amusing how these things worked out with our situation and Brock being available.

As for Ward, Elway said it was hard cutting the veteran who set a nasty tone for Denver's defense as a founding member of the "No Fly Zone" secondary.

"I don't think many people could have seen this situation taking place, but I will say I'm beyond excited that it did take place". He's got a lot of experience and so that was one glaring hole we had when Paxton hurt the shoulder. We were able to get it fixed.
