Hurricane Irma: Everything You Need to Know About This Monster Storm

Army troops and personnel from the federal electricity authority have been deployed to the area on Mexico's eastern gulf coast to be on hand to help in emergencies. More than 60 people were killed, at last count.

The country has been dealing with the arrival of the Gulf coast hurricane while parts of it are already in ruins following a magnitude 8.1 quake. Katia was initially measured as a Category 1 storm with 75 miles per hour winds - far less powerful than Irma, which is quickly approaching Florida, and Jose which remains farther out in the Atlantic Ocean.

Areas of Mexico to the north of Cabo Rojo and to the south of Laguna Verde are under a tropical-storm warning. The mountainous region where the storm has been dumping rain has a history of deadly floods and slides.

Katia is still expected to cause chaos and leave 250 millimeters of rain in Veracruz and Puebla, as well as torrential storms in San Luis Potosí and Hidalgo and intense storm conditions in Tlaxcala, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco.

After arriving in Mexico - as all hurricanes do when they hit land - Katia quickly weakened with winds of about 35 miles per hour. Katia made landfall Friday night as a hurricane. It then was downgraded to a tropical storm and forecasters expect it to dissipate Saturday.
