Amazon updated the Fire HD 10 tablet a year ago, but at $230 for an HD screen it wasnt so hot.

Eric Saarnio, head of Amazon devices in the European Union, said: "We've really worked hard to deliver a tablet from the ground up that's ideal for entertainment".

Amazon is boasting a new starting price of $149.99, making it easier than ever to afford a 10-inch Fire tablet.

While the new features are a definite plus, the biggest news of the day is the fact that Amazon has dramatically cut prices for the Fire HD 10, which will be available in Black, Marine Blue or Punch Red.

Following a summer 2017 rehash of the fall 2015-released Fire 7 and HD 8, the Fire HD 10 that also saw daylight a couple of years ago finally gets a sequel today. You can use Alexa for any objective you might typically use the personal assistant on an Amazon Echo, including controlling your house or checking the weather. The feature won't be available by default for the initial buyers and they will have to download software version 5.5.0.0 to enable Alexa handsfree feature. It has a quad-core 1.8GHz CPU that's "30% more powerful" than its predecessor's, with twice the RAM at 2GB and an extra two hours of battery life.

Once again, Amazon has cooked up a fantastically-priced tablet with its newest Fire HD 10.

The move shows how significant Alexa has already become for Amazon, which is using the digital butler in an effort to take over the smart home market, bring in more Amazon shoppers and maintain closer connections with its customers. It looks and functions as tablet, but also has the capabilities of Amazon Echo. There's also both front and rear cameras, together with dual-band 802.11ac WiFi for better wireless connections. If the Fire HD 10's default 32GB of storage isn't enough, Amazon also offers a 64GB model for $189.99. It's a voice command system that just works, and you don't even have to unlock the tablet to get her going. This new page displays all of your content neatly with completion bars on the bottom of books, magazines and video covers to show you how much you have left in an e-book or a movie. Little has changed, although there is a new addition to the Fire OS' UI called "For You", which provides recommendations for similar items you've purchased.
