Texas fans throw objects on field during loss to Maryland

Texas nearly imploded in the first half against Maryland, and no one could believe it

Week 1 of the 2017 college football season is off to a insane start.

It was not supposed to start this way.

The Longhorns came into the season opener against Maryland ranked No. 23.

With a new head coach and the promise that the program is already on the rebound with its $10 million locker room, big wins in recruiting for the future and some good-looking talent for the present, the focus was on Texas and Tom Herman.

Texas head coach Tom Herman is pictured with his team during a time out in the third quarter during the University of Maryland Terrapins vs. the University of Texas Longhorns NCAA football game at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas on Saturday, September 2, 2017. "You can't point any fingers because it was all over the field". Tom Herman seems to have his hands full so far. But, it was a loss.

The day started with such promise - a bright, sunny morning, a pick-six touchdown on the third play of the game, and the excitement over a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator, a new defensive coordinator and new offensive and defensive schemes. The Maryland Terrapins came back on the very next drive. What can't be ignored, however, is how well the Maryland football defense played. The Longhorns scored just 13 offensive points.

The hype attached to this team since Herman arrived in Austin was nowhere to be found after Saturday. The result was almost disastrous, as Shane Buechele was sacked at the half yardline.

In the previous three matchups between the Terrapins and Longhorns, Texas outscored Maryland by a combined score of 102-0.

Murdoch Pulls Fox News from Sky Platform as UK Mulls Takeover Deal
Fox said in a statement the decision was made because the channel has very little viewership and is not a money-maker for Sky. Fox ran afoul of broadcast regulations 22 times in 2016 , including some crucial slip-ups just before the Brexit vote.

Maryland came into Darrell K. Royal-Memorial Stadium as a almost three-touchdown underdog and left with a 51-41 win over No. 23 Texas. The Terrapins also got a 71-yard blocked field goal return by Antoine Brooks for a score while building a 27-7 lead midway through the second quarter.

Suddenly, a blowout turned into a 27-14 game. Backup quarterback Kasim Hill drove the ball 52 yards down the field for a touchdown to go up 44-34. At this point, it was 14-7 Terps in the first quarter.

Later on in the game, the Longhorns chose to go for it down three instead of punting.

Both teams had blocked field goals returned for touchdowns. Texas picked up three of those scores, and Hemphill-Mapps' was UT's first punt return for a touchdown since 2015.

The lack of short yardage success was a combination of not establishing a running game and putting too much on Shane Buechele. Texas then charged back, setting up a wild second half.

But, special teams giveth and special teams taketh away. Junior running back Ty Johnson had 12 carries for 132 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown.

Maryland took a 30-14 lead into halftime after a 26-yard field goal by Greene with 2:37 left in the half.

The defense followed up with a nice stop to force a punt.
