That's hugely annoying for those with a 4K HDR TV who want to play supported PlayStation 4 games on a standard console or PS4 Pro, but have to unplug the current processor unit every time they do so.

Sony will soon launch an updated version of the PlayStation VR headset. As such, we can expect to see the older model phased out with Sony concentrating on its more capable successor; people expecting to see a true second-generation PS VR headset may need to wait a little longer though.

There are majorly 3 VR headsets in the market, one from Facebook (Oculus Rift), HTC Vive and lastly the Sony PlayStation VR.

The changes are the first significant updates since the original headset, which has the model number CUH-ZVR1, first went on sale a year ago.

Still, just because these updated devices are on the way, that doesn't mean Sony isn't working on some wholly new controllers too. It'll remain compatible with all PS VR games and peripherals.

Up next in the continuing series of articles that should be entitled "early adaptors, save your money, you fools", Sony has announced that PS VR upgraded hardware is in the pipeline.

The updated model of the PlayStation VR headset may be relatively minor, but it will still likely help Sony extend its lead over its rivals.

The new VR headset will be available for $400, though there is no word on the availability. The processor unit is a small black box that connects the virtual reality headset to the TV and PlayStation 4, essentially functioning as an HDMI splitter.

Yesterday we reported that Sony was releasing an updated PSVR model with a slightly improved design. The PS VR headset and camera bundle is still being sold for $399.

It appears that the display system stays the same in the CUH-ZVR2. Microsoft does appear to have missed a beat by not making these headsets compatible with the XBox One X, but this may be because they wanted to keep the lucrative accessory revenue to themselves with their own dedicated Xbox-branded solution.
