India expresses outrage over Hafiz Saeed's release

Freed Pakistani militant rails against India ex-PM Sharif

"I will gather the people from across the country for the cause of Kashmir and we will try to help Kashmiris get their destination of freedom".

Saeed's release was expected to see Washington mount increasing pressure on Pakistan for its alleged support for militant groups, including the Taliban in Afghanistan. The Ministry of External Affairs opined that the release of Hafiz Saeed is an attempt by Pakistan to "mainstream" those blacklisted terrorists. It also appears to be an attempt by the Pakistani system to mainstream proscribed terrorists. Reacting to the Pakistani judicial body's order, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "We have read reports on the release of internationally proscribed terrorist Hafiz Saeed from house arrest by Pakistan".

Pakistan often says India is violating human rights in Kashmir, where security forces have killed or wounded dozens of protesters at anti-India rallies in recent months.

"India has always tried to do propaganda against me". Saeed was also seen cutting a cake and distributing candies among his supporters in celebration of his release.

Following the court decision, JuD Information Secretary Nadeem Awan said: "We are overjoyed to announce that after waiting for 10 long months, our chief will finally be free".

"Saeed has been freed as the Punjab government decided not to detain him further in any other case", a top government official told PTI.

"The review board looking in to the case... has refused to extend his house arrest as the government failed to provide any evidence against the charges", a spokesman for the party, Ahmed Nadeen said.

Challenging India's disagreement over releasing him, Hafiz Saeed said that India did everything to keep him under arrest but all the efforts are in vain. However, the last two extensions were made on the public safety law.

The review board had earlier allowed a 30-day extension to Saeed's detention, which is set to expire in the last week of this month.

Delivering his first "sermon" in over 10 months, the UN-designated global terrorist continued his rant against India and warned that his fight for a "free Kashmir" would continue.

Describing Saeed as the "prime organiser" of the November 26, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Kumar said the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) head is also responsible for unleashing numerous other terror attacks against Pakistan's neighbours.

Saeed was put under house arrest after the Mumbai terror attack in November 2008 but he was freed by court in 2009.

Saeed has been declared a global terrorist by the United Nations and the U.S. for his role in the Mumbai attack which claimed the lives of 166 people and maimed over 300 others.
