Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: Katy Perry Reportedly Banned From Performing in China

Apparently, singer Katy Perry, who was to perform this year, and a bevy of supermodels including Gigi Hadid have been banned from the People's Republic of China.

At one point during her 2015 concert, she even draped a Taiwanese flag over her sunflower dress, further angering a country that has long refused to recognize Taiwan as its territory.

Perry's failure to attend the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show comes immediately after model Gigi Hadid reportedly failed to secure a visa to enter China because of an Instagram video in which she allegedly mocked Asians, a source told Page Six.

Hadid, who was number five on Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid female models past year, earning $9 million, had expressed her participation in the show in August.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show takes place in Shanghai this Monday.

Perry has not commented publicly on the reported ban.

Alongside Gigi Hadid, some other big names of Victoria's Secret have been denied Chinese visa.

Back in 2015, Katy Perry had performed in Taipei, Taiwan, wearing a bright dress decorated with sunflowers.

Her outfit wound up causing widespread outrage because the sunflower had been adopted the year before by anti-China protesters.

Earlier this year, the model was called out for "discrimination" after a video of her seemingly imitating Buddha's appearance surfaced online. In February the U.S. model posted a video featuring her pulling a narrowed-eyes expression while holding a small Buddha.

"She was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa", a source said. Many including ulia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova from Russian Federation, as well as Dasha Khlystun from Ukraine were all denied the requisite visa. "This will, without question, be the biggest fashion event in history".
