First Alert: Ice Tomorrow and Snow for Christmas

A flurry or two. It's expected to be cloudy, with winds 11 to 21 miles per hour and gusts as high as 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Highs will be in the low to mid 50s sunny skies.

Snow will taper off by the afternoon, and we'll remain partly cloudy for Christmas.

If you can set your pre-Christmas travel, do it on Sunday. The south coast, where temperatures are above freezing, is one exception.

The heavy rain has finally come to an end as much colder air settles in. Temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s will feel more like the upper 20s to lower 30s during the day. And yet, that's exactly what we have coming up for Christmas 2017. It won't be a major or disruptive storm, at least not for us as it will still be in its infancy and organizing stages as it passes overhead later tonight.

Yet another busy day in the weather center as freezing rain continues for parts of Central NY this morning, mainly to the north and east of Utica as the cold air lingers. Expect total snow amounts of 2 to 4 inches with a high of 28 degrees and a low of 17. Farther south towards the Delaware Valley, it will be more rain, so any snow accumulation should be less than inch, and more likely closer to a coating.

But New York City, the Jersey Shore and Long Island are expected to get mostly rain. Roads were slick and troublesome Christmas morning, especially on less traveled roads. A developing area of low pressure is sliding northeast along the coastal plain of the eastern United States this afternoon and evening.
