A brush fire that broke out in the Kagel Canyon area above Sylmar, charred almost 11,400, destroyed about 30 homes and prompted the evacuation of more than 100,000 people from their homes, raged on for a second day Wednesday even though air crews made overnight water drops in a bid to douse the flames.

This map, published by the Daily News, shows where the fire is burning right now-and how close it is to landmarks such as the Getty Center and the Skirball Cultural Center. Gusts of more than 40 miles per hour in the fire areas were picking up embers from the burning fields and structures, sending them wafting downwind where they set additional homes on fire.

The newspaper said evacuations have been ordered in the Sullivan and Mandeville canyon area. Kim said, "I pray everyone in Los Angeles is safe from these fires and THANK YOU to all of the fire fighters working so hard to keep everyone safe!"

The fire was first reported around 5 a.m. local time Wednesday east of the 405 and north of Sunset Boulevard.
