Record-equalling Rohit hundred sets up India series win

India's Rohit Sharma scored the joint-fastest century in Twenty20 global cricket when he hammered his way to the landmark from only 35 balls against Sri Lanka in Indore on Friday.

The Indian skipper reached 100 off 35 deliveries, matching South African David Miller's century against Bangladesh in October.

Rohit scored 118 runs off only 43 balls and hit 12 fours and 10 massive sixes to dismantle Lankan bowling easily. Team India defeated Sri Lanka by 93 runs in the first T-20 match played in Cuttack, taking 1-0 lead in the series.

Rahul then took over and got his second successive half-century off 35 balls, and put on 78 runs for the second wicket with Mahendra Singh Dhoni (28).

After a scintillating hundred by stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma, Indian spinners, though went for too many runs, but bagged 7 wickets together to dismiss the entire visiting side for 172 runs in 17.2 overs. Sharma smashed 12 fours and 10 sixes after India were put into bat.

IST: TOSS - Sri Lanka win toss, elect to bowl vs unchanged India in Indore.

Except the lone victory at Dharamsala One Day International (ODI), Sri Lanka's tour to India has been full of disappointment and woes for the Visitors as following the two back-to-back defeats in ODI and Test series, Islanders now may face another fate with same outcomes in T20Is.

On November 13, 2014, Rohit had set a world record for the highest individual score in ODIs with a blitzkrieg knock of 264 at the Eden Gardens against Sri Lanka.
