Coutinho to join Barcelona from Liverpool in deal worth $192 million

Adam Lallana has become a key player under Jurgen Klopp

Mahrez has been valued at £50m, some way short of the £133m Barcelona are reportedly willing to pay for Coutinho.

The playmaker will sign a five-and-half year deal at the Nou Camp and will have a buyout clause of 400m euros (£355m).

Liverpool rejected three Barca bids and a transfer request from the player during the summer transfer window. The add-on clauses were initially dependent on the Brazilian winning the Ballon d'Or, but Liverpool felt it was unreasonable and asked Barcelona to make it more realistic.

"The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately". Liverpool were keen that the current La Liga leaders beat that price and make Coutinho the most expensive player in the club's history while making him the the third most expensive in the world, behind Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar (£198m) and Kylian Mbappe (£166m).

Coutinho will be unable to play for Barca in the Champions League this season after taking part in the competition for Liverpool but he will boost their bid for a 25th La Liga title.

Where do you think Coutinho would fit in under manager Ernesto Valverde?

"It is with great reluctance that we - as a team and club - prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho", Klopp said in a statement on Liverpool's website.

With that in mind, it's time for Liverpool to start planning for when Philippe Coutinho leaves the club.

Speculation surrounding Mahrez's City future has been rife this January transfer window and Liverpool are the latest club to be linked to the Algerian as they pick out possible Coutinho alternatives.
