Google faces racial discrimination lawsuit from fired engineer

It alleges that both Damore and Gudeman were "ostracized, belittled, and punished for their heterodox political views, and for the added sin of their birth circumstances of being Caucasians and/or males".

The author of the controversial memo that upended Google in August is suing the company, alleging that white, male conservatives are systematically discriminated against by Google.

Damore's original memo, which was leaked this fall, criticized Google's "left leaning" culture and argued that women in engineering were paid less than men due to their biological differences, not because of hiring practice.

The proposed class-action complaint says, "Google's open hostility for conservative thought is paired with invidious discrimination on the basis of race and gender, barred by law".

The lawsuit was filed in Santa Clara Superior Court by attorneys Harmeet Dhillon, Radveep Grewal and Gregory Michael from Dhillon Law Group. Included in the lengthy post were comments that men and women have different interests and abilities, affecting diversity in tech jobs and pay gaps.

Photo James Damore's lawsuit against Google, which fired him previous year after he criticized its diversity efforts, said, "Google's open hostility for conservative thought is paired with invidious discrimination on the basis of race and gender".

It also called on Google to "stop alienating conservatives" and called into question practices like "unconscious bias" training for committees that promote employees.

Damore stated that women tend to be more interested in people rather than things, "empathizing vs. systemizing", whereas men have a higher drive for status and so tend to end up in leadership positions.

Google chief Sundar Pichai said "portions of the memo violate our code of conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace".

He also said that on average, women have more "neuroticism", as defined as "higher anxiety, lower stress tolerance".
