Sony WH-1000XM2 Review

If the latest reports are to be believed, Apple is looking at introducing noise-canceling, over-the-ear headphones that rival headsets from established brands including Bose and its own Beats by Dre brand. When the Apple-branded headphones are released the company is expected to continue offering its lower-priced Beats headphones, which it acquired as part of a $3 billion deal in 2014 and which target the mid-range market. The company has confronted similar problems with the HomePod during its development, including multiple redesigns.

The headphones still aren't concrete yet, Bloomberg speculates that Apple may yet redesign them - further pushing them back, or scrap them altogether.

Sources say that Apple has been developing these high-end wireless headphones on-and-off for the past year.

Apple is ready to expand its audio portfolio seeing as how people have been lapping up its AirPods and loving the sound of the HomePod.

Apple's AirPods were just the start, it seems, the firm is moving towards something else.

The AirPods have been a key driver of newfound success for Apple's Other Products segment. Whatever the company is cooking up in the headphone space will likely have a premium look to it, especially with Apple targeting audiophile-grade performance.

The pricing for the new Apple headphones is seen as the key to all of this. But as history shows, Apple is not afraid to cannibalize itself. Both Bose's popular QC35 II and Beats' Studio3 wireless headphones cost $350.
