Attorney Investigating Arizona: DeAndre Ayton 'Abided By All Applicable Rules', 'Fully Eligible'

Sean Miller was caught on multiple FBI wiretaps talking about offering a recruit $100k to commit to Arizona

Arizona was named in a separate ESPN report Friday night, claiming head coach Sean Miller had discussed on the phone paying to have Deandre Ayton attend Arizona.

Miller's phone calls with Christian Dawkins, an affiliate with ASM Sports agency, were intercepted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which Miller was found discussing a $100,000 payment to top 2017 recruit and current freshman phenom Deandre Ayton, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. Miller did not coach Saturday night against OR, but Ayton was ruled eligible, scoring 28 points with 18 rebounds in an overtime loss.

In a separate statement Saturday, Ayton's attorney said Ayton's family is "outraged and disgusted by the recent reported news stories which have falsely implied" Ayton and his family "have any involvement in illegal or prohibited activities regarding his decision to matriculate at the University of Arizona". Kelly said the reports are "false and unfounded".

Over the past several months, Mr. Ayton has voluntarily submitted to several interviews, by federal prosecutors and the FBI, by University and PAC-12 compliance officials, by representatives of the NCAA, and by Steptoe &Johnson, the independent law firm engaged by te University to review these matters.
