Whether on one edge or two, Czech snowboarder and Alpine skier Ester Ledecka pushed the limits at the Pyeongchang Olympics, leaving with two gold medals to show for her efforts.

Not only did Ledecka defeat Selina Joerg of Germany in the final, but she also nudged out Jorien ter Mors of the Netherlands, who had become the first woman to earn medals in different sports in a single Olympics while Ledecka waited to compete in snowboarding.

"It's fantastic, really", Ledecka said of her second victory at PyeongChang 2018. "I enjoyed every run and I' m very happy to be here and stand on the highest place".

Never before has the seemingly unbreachable divide between the old classic of the Games, Alpine skiing, and the popular modern sport of snowboarding been breached by an athlete winning gold in both.

One week ago, Ledecka stunned a strong field including defending champion Anna Veith and American Lindsey Vonn to win the super-G, becoming one of the stories of the Games.

So unprepared was she for skiing success that this daughter of a famous Czech musician turned up to her press conference wearing goggles because, in her own words, "I don't have any make up on".

"But as long as I'm on the hill, I feel like it's home and I feel very good".

"When people think of us, they think of Prague and Pilsner", says another fan, Markeva, while heading out the door.

No need for argument about the greatest feat of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

However, she admitted it had not always been easy to deal with the pressure of having so many great expectations on her shoulders. She just needed to know how hard it would be, and then she could figure out the training and discipline the task required.

"I realized that was really inhibiting what we were doing in that the more I wanted her to find that medal, I really stifled what could be".

"But each time we get Ester back on the snowboard side, it's like chunk of coal".

Mikaela Shiffrin, a three-time Olympic medalist who races in each of the five Alpine disciplines, called Ledecka "an incredible example" for young athletes.

Ledecka revealed that it felt odd to go back-and-forth between the snowboard and skis. She had not worn makeup, preferring to keep her eyes shielded from the roomful of reporters and cameras.

Her victory in the parallel giant slalom, an event in which she is the reigning world champion, was far less of a shock.

"It is great honour to be the first Korean medallist in snowboarding", Lee said.
