Hearn has big U.S. plans with $1B DAZN deal

'[We had been] thinking from a fan's perspective about what was going on in terms of the increasing cost of traditional pay TV sports. "If you're out there, if you don't have a promotional contract, if you're a world-class fighter, we want you".

"This is a historic moment for Matchroom and the sport of boxing", he said.

Of the 16 cards to be produced Hearn promises 12 of them will be top of the line shows and 4 will be "absolute monsters".

Recently, Perform Group and National Basketball Association have announced a multi-year partnership that will see Perform manage the league's official websites in more than 15 worldwide markets, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Mexico and Spain. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, the sport's biggest stars of the past 15 years, are both retired, and younger fighters have yet to make an impact beyond avid fight fans.

Now Hearn is all-in on the U.S, market with the backing of Perform Group, whose DAZN (pronounced "Da Zone") sports streaming service, which is already available in places such as Japan, Germany and Canada, will launch in the U.S.in June.

In addition, while Matchroom will stage fights in the usual boxing venues in cities such as Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles, Hearn spoke of his interest in bringing the sport to various other American cities such as Chicago, Minnesota and Miami among others.

"Boxing stuck out like a sore thumb", Denyer said.

His promoter Eddie Hearn said: "I met with Anthony and his coach Rob McCracken on Tuesday to discuss our next move. We've got the dates, the money and the platform to give you regular championship contests".

"A groundbreaking deal in the history of the sport", Hearn said.

"America - we have well and truly arrived, let the fun begin!"

None will be on pay-per-view, but they will be available for a monthly fee without a long-term contract, much the same as Frank Warren's BoxNation. "We will upset a lot of people today and the way we promote boxing and watch boxing will never be the same".

Hearn said the reason he wanted to unveil the plans now even though DAZN hasn't yet formally announced its arrival in the USA and the boxing won't begin until September is because "I'm talking to all these fighters".

Other notable fighters include former welterweight champion Amir Khan, Tony Bellew, Dillian Whyte, Kell Brook and more but Hearn is now looking to create an 30-man American stable including some of the biggest names in the sport, particularly ones without a promoter.

British boxing is arguably at an all-time high right now with Hearn at the heart of it - led by the brilliance of Joshua.

'We have been looking at the United States market for some time but we needed a platform that would give us a huge volume of dates and a war chest to build an unrivalled stable within the sport.
