Parents of Parkland Victims Condemn ‘Active Shooter’ Video Game

"Active Shooter", the video game that would have allowed players to take part in a simulated school massacre, will not be released to the public after massive outcry over the product.

The game, Active Shooter, came under fire (sorry) this week after a Seattle woman started a petition calling for its removal in the wake of ongoing school shootings.

"Valve continued that the developer and publisher is, in fact, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, who operated as "Elusive Team" and "[bc] Interactive". Berdiyev, meanwhile, was previously booted from Valve' platform after releasing a game called Piccled Ricc based on an episode of Cartoon Network's "Rick and Morty". Active Shooter would reportedly allow players to choose whether they wanted to play as a SWAT team member responding to a shooting at a school, or as the shooter themselves.

Ryan Petty, who lost his 14-year-old daughter Alaina Petty in the Parkland shooting in February, dubbed the game "despicable". The point-of-view angle provides the player with opportunities for more points for shooting civilians and police officers.

An online petition by the activist group urging the game distributor not to launch the game drew almost 200,000 signatures.

Despite the comment from Valve, Robinett is happy the game isn't available for purchase now.

Steam's owner, Valve, said the game's publisher and developer had a bad history with the company, which led to its cancellation.

More than 57,000 people signed a petition to ban the game.

News of the game spread quickly as parents of children killed in real-life mass shootings spoke out.

One gamer inside Bits+Pixels Wednesday - suggested with "Active Shooter" banned - other games also raise concerns. "We are not going to do business with people who act like that towards our customers or Valve". The company said it will also have a "broader conversation" soon about all content on its online platform, which planned to charge between $5-10 starting on June 6 for the game.

She says its hard for companies to sift through all of the content being published on sites like Steam. However, in an interview with PC Mag, Berdyev claimed his involvement merely amounted to allowing Active Shooter's actual creator to use his USA bank accounts for Steam payments.
