Destiny 2's New Fall Expansion Called 'Forsaken,' Bungie Reveals Details In Livestream

Destiny 2 Forsaken

Perhaps the break in precedent has been prompted by Destiny 2's struggles.

Destiny 2 is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

You can catch the stream live on Tuesday June 5 at 9am PDT / 11am CDT / Noon EDT / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST / 2am Wednesday June 6 AEST.

Bungie had no intentions of waiting until next week's E3 trade show to share details regarding Destiny 2's next expansion. It started by showing a 10-minute ViDoc on the expansion which detailed numerous upcoming changes to Destiny 2. The base game didn't include any real missions taking place in the area, but a Crucible map called "The Drifter" was released with The Taken King. That will focus on a jailbreak from the Prison of Elders - a jail in the Reef that once held some of the solar system's deadliest criminals.

The new expansion takes players to The Tangled Shore, a part of Destiny's asteroid-filled Reef. They're pretty proud with what they've come up with and believe the customizing will make gamers invested in the weapons system again. Destiny 2 will now include a legit Bow and Arrow weapon.

Below is a quick checklist of what's included in the Gambit game mode. The 2015 major expansion included a full-fledged campaign, new strikes, a new raid, new class abilities, new multiplayer modes, and new multiplayer maps. Bungie notes how it combines PVP and PVE (much like many other shooters have done in the past), and pits teams of Guardians against each other, with objective play and NPCs in the mix. Raid design lead Joe Blackburn promises it will have "more bosses than any raid we've ever had before". If Bungie wants to move into China, even with NetEase at the board, they'll need to clear it with Activision first.

There's also a mixed PvE and PvP mode called Gambit mode. "Disrupt the other team by sending a combatant blocker or invading directly with one of your own players". You will be able to track all of the items you can acquire in the game and be pointed in the right direction to obtain them all, so if you are a completionist, this will scratch that itch for you. Two teams of four players are dispatched into separate arenas, where both sides fight enemies to collect motes.

It sounds promising, though after the dismal stories in the Curse of Osiris and Warmind expansions...hard to get too excited.
