Cohen, who has worked closely with Trump for decades, has not yet reached out to prosecutors to strike a deal, according to CNN's source.
Cohen is the focus of an investigation in the Southern District of NY into whether he violated campaign-finance laws or committed bank fraud, wire fraud, illegal lobbying, or other crimes.
Trump has repeatedly said there was no collusion, and Russian Federation has denied interference.
In a letter to the presiding judge in the case against Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's long-time personal attorney, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Southern New York revealed today that it had obtained additional evidence for review-including a trove of messages and call logs from WhatsApp and Signal on one of two BlackBerry phones belonging to Cohen. In April, Cohen and his lawyers successfully argued for the appointment of a special master, allowing them, Trump's attorneys, and the Trump Organization to identify documents protected by attorney-client privilege that could not be used in a potential prosecution.
The attorney claims Avenatti's behavior and statements about Cohen are unethical and threatens Cohen's ability to have a fair trial as it's turning the case into a "media circus".

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer for U.S. President Donald Trump, asked a federal court in California on Thursday to issue a restraining order against the lawyer for adult film actress Stormy Daniels, a court document showed.
"This is the worst move the White House could be making at a time when the president is potentially most vulnerable and others are most vulnerable", a lawyer close to the case told CBS News.
"As this Court has probably already surmised, Mr. Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity", the motion said.
"This must be their birthday present to Mr. Trump", Avenatti added.
Prosecutors in NY said in a court filing later Friday that they are still processing material seized from Cohen in an April raid. The judge reminded the parties Friday that requests for emergency orders "are exclusively for extraordinary relief and are discouraged". At a recent hearing, Wood told Avenatti that if he wanted to be admitted to the case, he would be required to cease his "publicity tour".
