When the Rockets lost, Kimmel mocked Cruz on Twitter and said he looked like a "blobfish". In Jimmy Kimmel's yearbook, the late-night host proudly shows off a clarinet.

Kimmel and Cruz took each other on in a game of one-on-one filmed for Kimmel's talk show - after weeks of trading back-and-forth barbs.

"I have no actual moves", Kimmel said before hitting the court.

And because there wasn't already enough ridiculousness in this situation to laugh about, let's combine this whole thing with another great joke concerning Ted Cruz and basketball.

England's previous appearance at a major tournament - Euro 2016 - ended in despair when they were knocked out of the last-16 by unfancied Iceland.

The game, called the Blobfish Basketball Classic because of the tweet that started it all, was played Saturday night at Texas Southern University's Arena in Houston, Texas. Game highlight videos are planned for Kimmel's ABC program Monday night.

Cruz, who was on his high school's varsity basketball team, is the bookies' favorite to win. I said, all right, big guy, you talk a good game.

Kimmel has been making headlines for some time now for his frequent emotional outbursts, many of which find him at odds with the current administration and President Trump's supporters, who accuse him of using his TV show as a platform from which to launch vicious monologues against his personal enemies. Kimmel elected to play in support of Texas Children's Hospital, and Cruz chose Generation One as his charity. "The loser gives $5k to the (non-political) charity of the winner's choice", Ted tweeted. I'm just going to live on the [Houston] streets, ' he added. "And I accepted. And now it's gonna happen". Kimmel is preparing to drill Cruz on policy whilst on the court. "If there's anyone you want to have a beef with, it's Ted Cruz".

"Do you have any advice for me in this one-on-one game with Ted Cruz?" he asked, fresh off the athlete's sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
