Ex-Trump lawyer Cohen pleads guilty in hush-money scheme

Manafort's wife Kathleen expressed no emotion and stared ahead. The judge in the case declared a mistrial for ten other financial charges after the jurors were unable to reach a verdict. Prosecutors said they intend to decide next week whether they will seek a retrial on those charges.

"I feel very badly for Paul Manafort and his wonderful family", he tweeted. "I said 80%. It's a lot". This has nothing to do with Russian collusion.

As part of his plea agreement, Cohen agreed not to challenge any sentence from 46 to 63 months.

Trump disparaged the special counsel's investigation upon landing in Charleston, West Virginia, telling reporters the probe is a "a witch hunt and a disgrace".

James Gazzale, a spokesman for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, confirmed to Fox News that Cohen was subpoenaed "for relevant information in light of the public disclosures made yesterday", but declined to comment further on the investigation.

In April, federal agents raided Cohen's home and office and seized millions of pages of documents and bank records.

Cohen admitted he had arranged payments to two women, alleging he had done so at the behest of "the candidate", for the "principal goal of influencing (the) election".

Meanwhile, in Virginia, Trump's former campaign manager was convicted of financial crimes and faces up to 240 years in jail. That could be charged as a felony violation. Both women claimed Trump had affairs with them, which he denies.

Manafort was charged with 18 counts of tax evasion, bank fraud and hiding foreign bank accounts in the first case Mueller brought to trial as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

On August 22, Trump said he wouldn't recommend his former personal lawyer.
