Malan out, Pope in for Lord’s Test

After a close defeat in the first Test at Edgbaston, Team India will look to bounce back in style at Lord's and level the series with a victory. This will be the second Test encounter between India and England.

Virat Kohli and his men though might now have to deal with the seam and swing of the English pacers, under overcast conditions.

England lead the five-match series 1-0 after a thrilling 31-run win at Edgbaston. The tourists' record at the venue is not a flattering one as they have won only 2 out of the 17 Tests they have played there. It has taken the Indian captain 37 games to play the same team in two back-to-back Test matches. There were plenty of positives for both the sides coming out of that match.

"It hurts when you are not scoring runs (and) as well, the team is not doing well", Kohli said ahead of the crunch clash at the hone of cricket.

New selector Ed Smith said upon the selections, "Dawid Malan drops out of the squad for Lord's".

His 149 in India's first innings was the 22nd century of his 67-match Test tenure.

We witnessed an absolute cracker at Edgbaston in the opening Test with India just falling short of the target. "So we'll turn up tomorrow, see if it looks any different, and then make that decision", he added.

Uncapped Essex paceman Jamie Porter has been omitted from a 13-man squad, with England yet to decide whether Chris Woakes or spinner Moeen Ali will replace all-rounder Ben Stokes, who misses out due to his ongoing court case.

About countering Ashwin and Ishant, he said, "They are two fine players and one of the reasons why India have been successful is they have some brilliant experienced players to call upon". An improvement on the batting front will be on both sides' agenda for this game.

We feel Shikhar Dhawan too could make way for C Pujara, who was surprisingly left out in the first Test.

Root said that it will be important to manage Kohli at the crease, in terms of keeping him away from strike, like they did in the second innings previously. "The frustrating thing about last week it wasn't poor batsmanship (sic) that got me out, it was a poor passage of play in terms of running between the wickets".
