His remarks came a day after Pakistan's Foreign Office rejected the US State Department's statement about a telephonic conversation between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is supposed to visit Pakistan in September. "Pompeo had expressed his willingness to work with the new government toward a productive bilateral relationship", Nauert said.
"The statement issued by the State Department was contrary to the facts", Qureshi said. There are no mentions at all in the conversation about terrorists operating in Pakistan.
Pompeo, during his conversation with Khan on Thursday, had sought "decisive action" against the terrorists operating in Pakistan, as per a statement issued by US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert. "They had a good call", she said at a press briefing. Pakistan is an important partner to the United States.
While the new prime minister, Imran Khan, has spoken of desiring better relations with Washington and other countries, the very first step towards the betterment of ties seems to have been hit with confusion and cross-claims between Islamabad and Washington.
It is pertinent to note here that the minister had announced a day before that opposition will also have its say in the editorial policy of state television and radio and he will make efforts to bring the Pakistan Television's English wing at par with global media.
PTI to contest president election with full zeal: Imran Khan
According to reports, the newly constituted Imran Khan's cabinet during its second meeting banned the discretionary use of state funds of the Prime Minister, federal ministers, members of the National assembly.
Khan is well known for his criticism of US military policy in Afghanistan, but he said after winning elections last week that he seeks better relations with the United States after a series of aid cuts and the suspension of USA military training.
The US government announced earlier this year that it was suspending all security assistance to Pakistan until Islamabad took "decisive action" against armed groups.
With respect to Afghanistan, both the leaders agreed that peace is a priority for the two countries.
On bilateral relations between the two nations, he said that there was a need for understanding of the USA position on Afghanistan to bring relations back to a high level the previously high level.
