Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the decision of congressional leaders from both parties Sunday, calling McCain "a great American patriot, a statesman who put his country first and enriched this institution through many years of service".

While stressing McCain's contempt for President Donald Trump, the show predicted that USA 'attempts to restrain and isolate Russian Federation with harsh sanctions will continue - just now without John McCain'.

The White House issued no formal statement over the weekend about McCain's death, though one was drafted, according to USA media.

McCain died on Saturday. He was taken prisoner and held in the infamous Hanoi Hilton prison for more than five years.

As a presidential candidate, Trump - who did not serve in the military himself and avoided the draft through a series of deferments - attacked McCain's record of service and said the Vietnam veteran and former prisoner of war is "not a war hero" because he was captured.

McCain, who died Saturday at age 81, will be buried Sunday at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, after his body lies in state in the Arizona Capitol in Phoenix, and the Capitol Rotunda in DC.

After McCain's death, Trump tweeted, "My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain".

Pham Binh Minh wrote in a condolence book at the United States embassy in Hanoi: "For both the government of Vietnam and its people, Senator McCain was a symbol of his generation of senators, and of the veterans of the Vietnam War". He did, however, ask that Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush deliver eulogies. Our hearts and prayers are with you!"-but it's the Instagram version of that sentiment that's getting all the attention".

Turkish president blasts ‘economic coup’ amid heightened tensions with US
An important emerging market, Turkey borders Iran, Iraq and Syria and has been mostly pro-Western for decades. Turkey has repeatedly criticized the US for not condemning the coup attempt two years ago.

Something important to note: this is not a statement about how John McCain should be remembered, nor is it a defense of McCain's actions during his life.

On Monday, two days after McCain's death, his spokesperson read a farewell statement from McCain, which is below.

While the senator stuck by the party's 2016 presidential nominee, Trump, at times seemingly through gritted teeth - until the release a month before the election of a lewd audio in which Trump said he could kiss and grab women.

Since December, he never returned to the Senate as he underwent treatment in Arizona, where he kept a low profile, issuing written statements on major news developments but offering the public few glimpses of his condition.
