Nvidia's Beefy New Graphics Card Will Cost £1099

Today at Gamescom, NVIDIA announced three new graphics cards for the next generations. While it may not receive quite as much hype as E3, the expo has reached attended of over 300,000 visitors every year since 2013.

What makes the RTX cards special is Nvidia's new Turing architecture, which can render light and shadow effects, or what's called "ray tracing", more realistically than other graphics cards.

Nvidia's next-generation gaming graphics cards, the RTX 20 series, will launch on September 20 with a pair of products that'll start at $699.

Nvidia has also recruited publishers of some of the biggest upcoming games of 2018, as evidenced by a few tweets using the company's #BeForTheGame hashtag.

MSI has the RTX 2080 listed on Amazon for the same price as the founders edition. Last but not least, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Amp is probably the speediest of all four cards, though Zotac doesn't say how fast its chip will tick in use. Have no doubt, this is a major architectural overhaul for Nvidia; the Turing Streaming Multiprocessor (SM) has a brand new design with the ability to perform independent floating point and integer operations.

Nvidia promises "6X the performance of previous-generation graphics cards" and many other technical bells and whistles, although I'm not sure how many games these days are even maxing out the capabilities of the company's current most powerful card, the 1080 Ti.

The products launching today include the RTX 2070, 2080 and 2080 Ti. All of this pieces are according to the website listing and the cards can be pre-ordered directly from NVIDIA over on the website. For reference, the RTX 2070 is said to outperform a Titan Xp, although precisely how this is measured wasn't made clear and should absolutely be treated with caution given the metric fiddling going on.

MSI announced five series of GeForce RTX cards, which means there should be a model that suits everyone's needs.

Nvidia's presentation included live in-game demonstrations of ray tracing in action from Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Metro: Exodus, Assetto Corsa, and Battlefield V.
