Morning Joe Laughs Out Loud at Trump's Tweet to Chairman Kim: 'His Friends are Despots!'

A portrait of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is displayed on a large screen during a evening gala performance on the eve of the 70th anniversary of North Korea's founding day on Saturday.

Russian Federation and North Korea share a small border on Putin's nations Pacific coast - with a frontier of just 11 miles. Trump has doubled down on economic sanctions in a "maximum pressure" campaign and swapped threats with North Korea throughout past year, but made history in June when he became the first sitting USA president to meet with a North Korean supreme leader.

With tensions once again on the rise, a parade featuring the very missiles that so unnerved Trump a year ago, and led to a risky volley of insults from both leaders, could have been seen as a deliberate provocation.

This year's celebrations also mark the revival of North Korea's iconic mass games after a five-year hiatus.

Hundreds of trucks carrying thousands of troops lined a Pyongyang riverbank in the pale light of dawn early Sunday, as nuclear-armed North Korea prepared to celebrate its birthday with a huge show of military strength.

The spectacle, months in the making, will centre on a military parade and mass games predicted to put advanced missiles and leader Kim Jong-un's hopes for a stronger economy front and centre.

Kim was seen laughing and holding hands up with the Chinese special envoy as he oversaw the festivities.

At one point jets trailing red, white and blue smoke - the colors of the North Korean flag - roared above the Juche Tower, the stone monument to Kim Il Sung's political philosophy. "I think most observers expect them to avoid assertive or surprising or shocking signals along those lines".

North Korea's Kim says wants to denuclearise in Trump's first term - Seoul
The two Koreas technically remain at war as the 1950-53 war ended only with an armistice, not a peace treaty. We haven't had any nuclear tests, we haven't had any missile tests, which we consider a great thing.

'Not blood and soil': McCain's farewell message to Americans criticizes Trump
The White House issued no formal statement over the weekend about McCain's death, though one was drafted, according to USA media. Our hearts and prayers are with you!"-but it's the Instagram version of that sentiment that's getting all the attention".

The military parade was North Korea's first since February 8 this year, when the country celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Army.

Immediately after the parade thousands of citizens walked through the square, escorting floats displaying economic themes and calls for Korean reunification.

The Pentagon estimates that almost 7,700 US troops are unaccounted for from the war - among them 5,300 believed to have been killed north of the 38th parallel, which largely follows the boundary between North and South Korea.

The 1950-53 war ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty, meaning US -led United Nations forces are technically still at war with the North.

On Thursday, a high-level South Korean delegation returning from direct talks with Kim in Pyongyang said that the North Korean ruler aimed to denuclearize completely within Trump's first term and South Korea's national security council chief Chung Eui-yong said the young ruler "particularly emphasized that he has never said anything negative about President Trump", according to Reuters.

In April, Kim declared that the North's development of nuclear weapons had been completed and "socialist economic construction" would be the new strategic priority.

While ticket prices for past Mass Games topped out at 300 euros ($350), this year VIP seats cost 800 euros, said Simon Cockerell, general manager for the Koryo Tours agency.

"He confirmed he is ready and willing to make an official visit to Russia", RIA quoted Matvienko as saying.
