Pakistan beat Australia by 66 runs in first T20

In a scintillating match, the youthful Pakistan crushed Australia by 66 runs in the first Twenty20 worldwide in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Australia's hopes of taking the lead in the three-match series were soon over as they made a horrendous start to their reply, slumping to 22-6 with spinning all-rounder Imad taking 3-20 in his first global for a year.

Only twice have Australia scored fewer runs in a T20 worldwide, making just 79 against England at Southampton in 2005 and 86 in a defeat by India at Dhaka four years ago.

Tye struck twice in as many balls to see the back of Hussain Talat and Faheem, then Stanlake took two wickets in the next over as Pakistan collapsed to from 130-3 to 133-8.

Wasim, who was making his worldwide return after a year, removed the openers in his first over and came back later to get the wicket of Alex Carey, as Australia were bowled out for 89 in 16.5 overs and lost the match by 66 runs. During the powerplay, Australia lost their top four batsmen followed by a run out of Ben McDermott for a duck, and a drastic caught behind of Alex Carey.

Sarfraz Ahmed the captain was delighted at the overall performance.

"Babar Azam and Hafeez batted beautifully and when we bowl we always try to take wickets when we have the ball in our hands".
