Apple cancels production boost for iPhone XR

Report: Apple cancels iPhone XR production boost

It's possible iPhone XR demand isn't meeting Apple's expectations, but exactly the reason that's happening is hard to determine.

In September, Apple launched three new iPhones, the premium iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max that start at Rs 99,900 and go all the way up to Rs 144,900.

Tung's remarks are tantamount to a denial of rumors that claimed Apple had lowered the proportion of iPhone XR orders allocated to Pegatron to 35%, and switched more orders to Foxconn Electronics, as Pegatron's production had been affected by shortages of labor and some key components.

Its sources say that Apple has told its manufacturing partners, Foxconn and Pegatron, that it won't be needing the extra production lines it originally expected to tap.

The report, in Nikkei, states that demand for the iPhone XR has been "disappointing".

The iPhone XR, meanwhile, is having its demand outlook cut by around 20% to 25%, according to the Nikkei source. However, it is now using only around 45 lines and does not require any additional production capacity.

Overwatch's next hero is Ashe, a gunslinging western gang leader
In addition to the levitating Snowball and the Genji Sword, Overwatch's heroes and environments have been adapted into LEGO form. One thing is for sure though, the audience reaction to her and her Ultimate Bob-the-mustach'd-robot was overwhelmingly positive.

Look China rich help drive global billionaire wealth to $12.3 trillion
Roughly half of China's new billionaires saw their wealth dip below 10 digits by the end of the year, the report showed. Rates will be higher; we expect the Federal Reserve to hike rates three times next year, so the risk premium is higher.

As a reminder, iPhone XR sales began in the fourth quarter (last month), so we'll see a look at how they're affecting market share sometime in early 2019. Apple previously told Wistron to stand by for rush orders, but now the supplier will not receive any orders for the holiday season.

Interestingly, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have had orders increase by more than 5 million units.

The report follows Apple's decision last week to stop providing unit-sales figures in its quarterly earnings, making it even more hard going forward to determine individual unit success. During that call, Apple also - for the first time ever - neglected to give iPhone sales numbers for the quarter.

A bunch of Apple's other Taiwanese suppliers fell sharply, including camera lens-maker Largan Precision Co Ltd, which was down more than 7 per cent, and Flexium Interconnect Inc, which fell 6 per cent.

If this all sounds familiar, you're probably thinking of the Apple iPhone 5C, which Apple launched five years ago.
