Le'Veon Bell's season is officially over

Sunday Playbook In Tennessee Foxboro South is quickly blooming

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell did not report to the team before Tuesday's deadline meaning he is ineligible to play the rest of the season. In the offseason, the Steelers will consider using a $14.5 million transition tag, which allows them to match any outside offer for Bell or let him walk in free agency.

Bell, though, decided against it. and will now forfeit ALL of the $14.5 MILLION the Steelers were set to pay him this season.

"I want to confirm that Le'Veon Bell did not sign his Franchise Tender today and, as a result, he will not be eligible to play football during the 2018 season", general manager Kevin Colbert said in a terse statement. James Conner's been killin' it in Bell's stead - and teammates have ripped the RB for his holdout throughout the past few months. Although there were reports saying the team expected him to report after its bye week, hope the 26-year-old would show up dwindled, and Bell's teammates grew exhausted of his holdout.

Pittsburgh sits atop the AFC North at 6-2-1 and on track for a first-round bye despite not having its three-time Pro Bowl back.

The anger eased as the weeks passed and Conner thrived in Bell's absence while Bell remained in Florida, where encounters captured on social media found him riding a Jet Ski or hitting the club. Instead, Bell made good on a threat he made almost 11 months ago, when he said he would consider sitting out the season if the team kept him from free agency via a second franchise tag.

The Steelers drafted Bell with the 48th overall pick in the 2013 draft, won over by his youth, size and versatility. He also leads the league with eight runs of 20-plus yards. Now, after five consecutive wins, they've moved past that fantasy. One veteran player told ESPN anonymously: "He f--ed us".

Bell produced almost 2,000 total yards a year ago but started slowly, averaging 3.46 yards per carry through the first three weeks of the season.

And so, we appear to be at the end of Bell's career in Pittsburgh. But ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported this past weekend that Bell was unlikely to show.
