More than 200 Texas firefighters, including some from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, have answered the call to assist in the deadly California wildfires.

Statewide the number of dead stood at 31, including two victims in Southern California, from wildfires raging at both ends of the state.

Ten search teams were working in Paradise - a town of 27,000 that was largely incinerated last week - and in surrounding communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

In some cases, all that remains is charred fragments of bone and investigators have been using wire baskets to sift and sort them.

The search for bodies is continuing.

Over 8,000 firefighters have been tackling the massive blaze, which reportedly covers around 397 square miles. She encouraged people to aid in relief efforts by donating money and supplies to organizations like California's Wildfire Relief Fund and the Red Cross.

Two more have perished near Malibu in the south of the state.

Its death toll now equals that of the Griffith Park Fire in 1933, the deadliest wildfire on record in California.

Brown asked Trump on Sunday to declare the fires a major disaster, a move that would allow more federal resources to flow to California to help with relief and recovery.
